This world has always been here. I just found a way to see it and wrote it down.
Behind the Lore
How did EDC 2024 birth an entire world with characters, magic, conflict, and destiny? Well, maybe it didn’t. I think this world always existed and it felt like I discovered it at EDC 2024, just lurking beneath reality. It is a fantasy, but it’s real to me—real to me in that it’s how I understand this world that feels bigger than me and so vastly different from reality.
To understand the origins of the lore, you need to know the beginnings of the Paige and Lucas Club. In 2011, two bright-eyed, driven kids, Paige and Lucas, met during community college at a student organization meeting for a volunteering club. By the third meeting, attendance dwindled, leaving only the two of them. They jokingly called it the Paige and Lucas Club, as they kept attending and sharing their lives and music.
Their friendship endured through community college and beyond, staying connected through texts and music, a language only they understood. Despite complicated timing, in 2016, both were single, and Lucas asked Paige on a date. This soon lead to her first EDC. Their romance ended, but they eventually resumed their friendship, sharing songs and support.
Maintaining such a friendship was challenging, and they lost touch for a few years. But a turbulent year brought Lucas back, reigniting their friendship like an ember turned into a forest fire.
Quick Timeline
-
Lucas and I met in 2011 in college. During a club recruitment mixer in the student union, I came across a little club all about volunteering and the community. I met Lucas at the first meeting for the club.
Over time membership fell, but Lucas and I kept going anyway. For a good stretch of time we would be the only ones attending. We started to jokingly call it the Paige and Lucas Club.

A lot happens between the Paige and Lucas Club and EDC 2016. Lucas and I stayed friends throughout the years, we checked in, communicated through song, shared a Spotify account, and remained supports in each other’s lives.
In 2016 something changed: both of us were single at the same time for the first time.
We had our first real date and started made it official shortly after leading us to EDC 2016. I was nervous to say the least. Socially I am a little shy and rave culture scared me, but I fell in love with it immediately.
EDC 2016 sparked my obsession with EDM, raving, and PLURR. EDC became a yearly aspiration.

EDC 2016 was my first EDC, but it wouldn’t be my last. It was also my first EDC with Lucas, but it wouldn’t be my last.
Life has a mysterious way of coming full circle. From the Paige and Lucas Club, something about our story was always inevitable.
We lost touch for a few years, but after the hardest years of our lives, respectively, our paths intersected again. This new opportunity truly began where it had once ended.
The pressure and gravity of our second EDC weighed thick in the air. It started pretty rock with lost items and big feelings, but Lucas grabbed my pash, made us a little base and we reset. From here Utility Girlfriend was born and everything else is just lore.
